First Tupac Biopic Trailer Hints At The Tragedy To Come

In honor of what would have been Tupac Shakur's 45th birthday, the first teaser trailer for the legendary rapper's long-awaited biopic has finally dropped.

Directed by Benny Boom and starring Demetrius Shipp as Tupac -- the resemblance is truly uncanny -- All Eyez on Me will follow Pac's rise from a young MC and poet growing up in East Harlem and Baltimore to one of the most influential voices of his generation. Tupac's story ended in tragedy when he was gunned down and killed in Las Vegas in September 1996 at the age of 25.

The late rapper's fate is foreshadowed in the teaser trailer, which features the voice of Afeni Shakur (Danai Gurira) telling her son, "This ain't just about you. Like all black men, you have a bullseye on your back. They are going to give you the tools that you need to destroy yourself."

Images of Pac's early life in Harlem and his time at Death Row Records can be seen, as well as glimpses of other major players like Suge Knight (Dominic L. Santana) and Walter "King Tut" Johnson (Maino). The cast of All Eyez on Me also includes Kat Graham as Jada Pinkett and Jamal Woolard as Pac's notorious rival, The Notorious B.I.G.

All Eyez on Me has been stuck in development hell for years, with lawsuits and numerous director changes threatening to shut down production. Thanks to the success of Straight Outta Compton, production was finally able to settle on Boom before the rights to the film reverted back to Shakur's estate.

All Eyez on Me is set to open on November 11, 2016, just two months after the 20th anniversary of Shakur's death.
