Yo-Yo Ma and Plácido Domingo Enter Classical Hit Parade

Andrea Bocelli's Sacred Arias still at #1; Classical Williams slides to #9.

Cello virtuoso Yo-Yo Ma thundered into the classical charts this week, capturing the #4 spot with Simply Baroque II.

The collection features various works by J.S. Bach, including several choral preludes, arias and choral variations. Ton Koopman and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra support the famed cellist through the Bach and the Cello Concerto of Luigi Boccherini.

In addition, the collection Wagner: Love Duets, by Plácido Domingo and Deborah Voight, jumped in at #10. The Wagner release captures moments from both Siegfried and Tristan und Isolde with Antonio Pappano conducting the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

Tenor sensation Andrea Bocelli holds on to the #1 position with his Sacred Arias. The "Fantasia 2000" soundtrack, by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, follows at #2, with performances of works by Stravinsky, Gershwin and Respighi. The soundtrack also includes the perennial favorite "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" by Paul Dukas. The Appalachian Journey of Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer and Mark O'Connor holds on to the third position. The most recent release by the John Williams, Classic Williams, slides three places to #9.

Making up the top 10 are: Bocelli, Sacred Arias, at #1; Chicago Symphony Orchestra, "Fantasia 2000" soundtrack, at #2; Yo-Yo Ma, Meyer and O'Connor, Appalachian Journey, at #3; Yo-Yo Ma at #4 with Simply Baroque II; Harmony at #5; The Most Relaxing Classical Album in the World at #6; Beethoven's Adagios at #7; Chanticleer's Magnificat at #8; Classic Williams at #9; and Wager: Love Duets by Voight and Domingo.
