Dylan O'Brien's Hair Almost Cost Him His 'Maze Runner' Gig

Long before Season 3 of "Teen Wolf" even hit airwaves, show creator Jeff Davis reached out to fans to help him answer one very important question: Should Stiles Stilinski have long or short hair? And it turns out Davis isn't the only one who's lost sleep over the actor's locks. In an interview published by Collider yesterday, O'Brien revealed that snagging his starring role in the upcoming flick, "The Maze Runner," which hits theaters on September 19, was very dependent on his 'do.

"The way [director] Wes [Ball] told me it happened was, at first, I went in on it initially with the casting director, just like everybody," O'Brien said. "I didn’t hear back for like a month and a half, because Wes was like, 'His hair is too MTV!' That’s what he thought, which was so funny. Then he saw a picture of me with more regular hair, the buzzcut or something from 'Teen Wolf,' and he brought me back and it worked."

We'll try not to take the whole "too MTV" thing personally, Mr. Ball.

O'Brien went on to describe how his quick legs worked out in his favor during "Maze Runner" filming. "I just happen to be able to run really fast," he shared. "I’d be down to do a sprint any day, then wake up the next day and not be able to move. I love sprinting, which is such a weird sentence."

Check out the interview for more, including whether O'Brien felt pressure as the movie's leading man, and re-watch the "Maze Runner" trailer to see how his hair was ultimately styled.
