Drake’s ‘Ghostwriter’ Quentin Miller Addresses The ‘Lies': Listen

QM drops 'Lies' and seems disappointed with the rap game.

UPDATE (7/27/15, 5:28 p.m. ET): In a tweet sent on Monday, Quentin Miller claimed that this song was recorded two years ago.

Quentin Miller - Drake's alleged ghostwriter - just released "Lies." But is it a response to the Drizzy and Meek Mill controversy? You be the judge.

The track opens with Miller’s hook about disillusionment with the music game.

"You wear disguise/ Tell them lies to be televised,” he rhymes. "I’d rather work a 9 to 5 over sellin' my soul/ Chasing fame trying to see yourself among the stars/ I'd rather chase this f—kin’ paper over chasing these h-es/ That's what I live now, that's what I live/ You rap about it, but that's what I live.”

That theme of disappointment continues as QM’s first verse hits.

“I done seen what it’s like to get rich off your dream and lose it all/ You can have the game/ I’m through with y’all/ I’m moving on,” he raps before cautioning someone. “Don’t try me, though/ You’ve been warned.”

That's not all. QM goes on to describe some of what might have him so down on the industry, reflecting on what he’s seen in his peers.

"You rappin’ dudes, I don’t get you,” he rhymes. “N—as sell their souls for some clothes and Versace gold.”

While that first verse has a pretty strong lean towards his angst over the rap world, Miller’s second verse focuses on his "daughter on the way.”

“I just hope that I can show you [that] you can be anything you wanna/ without misleading persona,” he raps. “I’m working on it.”

Once the song was unleashed, fans began reacting on Twitter. Here's a look at some of those responses:

Some just celebrated the track by bumpin' it.

Others saw it as a Meek response.

Some simply saw it as a freestyle.

Prior to dropping the selection, Quentin Miller reportedly addressed the ghostwriting controversy with an open letter.

"I am not and never will be a 'ghostwriter' for Drake," he said. "I'm proud to say that we’ve collaborated, but I could never take credit for anything other than the few songs we worked on together."
