Sonic Youth Scoring Richard Linklater Film

First the soundtrack, then a new album. Photo by Jay Blakesberg.

Sonic Youth now have their own recording studio, which is

located somewhere in lower Manhattan. The group is breaking in the studio (so

to speak) by using it to record the soundtrack to director Richard Linklater's

next film. (Linklater directed Slackers and Dazed and Confused.)

His new project is a film of Eric Bogosian's play, "SubUrbia." Once Sonic Youth

complete the soundtrack, they will begin work on their next album, which will

also be recorded in the new studio. (By the way, you might find Sonic Youth

guitarist/writer Lee Ranaldo's Moroco Diary, which is in the features section

of Addicted To Noise, of interest.)
