'Ender's Game' Exclusive Images: Buggers Beware

Asa Butterfield, Harrison Ford and Hailee Steinfeld star in sci-fi film out November 1.

Buggers beware: Ender Wiggin isn't to be trifled with.

The young battle prodigy played by actor Asa Butterfield is at the heart of Lionsgate's big-screen adaptation of "Ender's Game." Set in a near future in which Earth has twice been attacked by an invading race of aliens known as "Formics" (or "Buggers," thanks to their insect-like bodies), the film follows Ender as he's recruited into Battle School to prepare for the inevitable third invasion.

In anticipation of the film's release next month, MTV News has landed six exclusive, out-of-this-world images featuring Butterfield and co-stars Harrison Ford and Hailee Steinfeld.

Ender's Graff mentor

Ford's Colonel Hyrum Graff shows up at the Wiggins' door not long after Ender fatally wounds another young boy. But Graff isn't there to punish Ender -- far from it. He wants to recruit Ender into Battle School. At first, Graff appears to be Ender's ally, but he soon singles him out for his intelligence, causing Ender's fellow recruits to resent and ostracize him.

Ender takes flight

The new recruits -- dubbed "Launchies" -- are put through rigorous training exercises, a large number of which take place in a zero-gravity battleroom where they perform tactical simulations. Ender excels in the weightless environment, quickly devising new maneuvers that impress the school's leadership and help elevate him up the ranks.

Petra's purpose

In his new post with the Salamander Army, Ender meets Petra (Hailee Steinfeld), one of the only girl enlistees. The two begin training together, with Petra serving as a sort of mentor to young Ender. Later, when Ender is given his own command over Dragon Army (which it appears we see here), Petra is among his troops, and he relies heavily on her expertise in the computer-simulated exercises meant to replicate war against the Buggers.
