Drake Celebrated This Icon's Life 20 Years After Her Tragic Death

The spirit of Selena Quintanilla lives on.

Drake showed his love for Selena recently. The rapper posted several photos of himself wearing a white shirt with Selena Quintanilla’s face airbrushed on it, a tribute to the iconic singer who was tragically shot and killed 20 years ago, just shy of her 24th birthday.

"They'll be talkin' 'til I meet Selena," Drake said in the post's caption, a line that brings King Louie's "Til I Meet Selena" to mind.

Selena, a Tejano music icon who was played by Jennifer Lopez in the 1997 film about her life, continues to inspire many artists including Selena Gomez, who was named after the singer. Gomez has even covered one of Selena’s most beloved tracks, “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom.”

According to Complex, Drake's shirt was made by Darien Bruze as part of his Fallen Angels of R&B collection, which is also set to include Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez and Aaliyah.

In 1995, after a short but impactful career, Selena was shot and killed by the founder of her fan club. Selena was 23.

Drake's fresh off the release of his latest project, If Youre Reading This Its Too Late and he is reportedly working on his next official album, Views From The 6.
