UNIVERSAL CITY, California -- She may have a #1 single on her résumé and Jay-Z's number in her cell phone, but Rihanna wants her fans to know she's a regular girl.
"We just wanted to reconnect with my peers, let them know I'm still a teen, I still have friends," Rihanna said of her new video for "We Ride." "The 'S.O.S.' and 'Unfaithful' [concepts] were so out there, so we pulled it back a little bit. I'm chilling with my girls some."
The clip, which she shot last week in Miami and the Florida Keys, is also perfectly representative of the track, which is about being OK after a man is unfaithful to her because, "I still got my girls with me" (see [article id="1535606"]"Rihanna Lets Fans Be Her Guide, Selects Summer Jam 'We Ride' As Next Single"[/article]).
Anthony Mandler, who directed the "Unfaithful" video, reunited with Rihanna and counterbalanced the "chilling" vibe with serious choreography.
"I'm dancing, like technical dance, which was a challenge," Rihanna said. "It usually takes years to learn, but we got it done in a few days. And it was beautifully shot."
The video is due in the next few weeks, just in time for Rihanna's return to the road after a successful summer headlining jaunt. This time around, she's mostly opening for the Black Eyed Peas, with a few other dates mixed in.
In the meantime, the Barbados-born beauty is nominated for two Moonmen (Best New Artist and Viewer's Choice) at Thursday's MTV Video Music Awards (see [article id="1537437"]"Shakira, Chili Peppers, Madonna, Panic! Lead List Of Nominees For MTV Video Music Awards"[/article]). On Sunday, the singer won Choice R&B Artist and Choice Breakout, Female at the Teen Choice Awards (see [article id="1538972"]"Britney Introduces K-Fed, Nick Lachey Scores 'Awkward' Award At Teen Choice 2006"[/article]).
"These awards mean a lot to me because fans choose, and that's a big deal," Rihanna said. "Honestly, [the success] still hasn't hit me. I pinch myself all the time, like, is this real? I think I have to stop a little to let it [sink] in."
