'Princess Diaries 3' May Happen After All, According To Garry Marshall
If the original Princess Diaries taught us anything, it’s that miracles happen once in a while, when you believe. (Also, that sorbet is cold and should be eaten in tiny bites.)
And so, when Garry Marshall, director of the 2001 flick, says that a third installment of the franchise is happening, we have no choice but to polish off our dusty tiaras and react as such:
While speaking to People Magazine, Marshall revealed that he’s indeed planning a new chapter of the series with Anne Hathaway, who starred as Princess Mia Thermopolis in the original film and its 2004 sequel, Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.
"I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago, it looks like we want to do Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan," Marshall said. "Anne Hathaway is very pregnant, so we have to wait until she has the baby and then I think we're going to do it."
Hathaway is currently expecting her first child with husband Adam Schulman. It’s likely that she’d take a maternity leave after giving birth, meaning this purported project may be a long way off, if it’s indeed happening.
Rumors of a third Princess Diaries first started swirling in June 2015, but a source close to Disney told Entertainment Weekly that there were no plans in development at the time.
Along with reigniting hope that Disney’s plans have changed, Marshall told People not to rule out an appearance from Chris Pine, who played Mia’s frenemy-turned-love interest, Lord Nicholas Devereaux, in the second film.
"Maybe," Marshall said about Pine returning to the series. "He's quite big now, you know."
We know. But we need this cuteness to grace our screens once again. Make it happen, Disney!
