STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. — Kimberly Mathers, the wife of

rapper Eminem, attempted suicide at

the couple's home on Friday night after attending a concert by her

husband, who had performed as part of the Up in Smoke tour.

A spokesperson for Interscope Records said the 25-year-old Mathers

slashed her wrists.

Emergency and fire-department personnel were called to the scene around

11:30 p.m. Mathers, who was conscious when help arrived, was treated for

her injuries at the scene, according to a press release issued by the

Sterling Heights Police Department.

Mathers was taken to nearby Mt. Clemens General Hospital for evaluation and released on Saturday.

Eminem, 27, was not at home at the time of the incident, although label

representatives for the platinum-selling rapper have issued a statement

on his behalf. The rapper performed over the weekend in Rosemont, Ill.,

and Milwaukee.

"Eminem is obviously concerned about his wife's well-being," the

statement read. "As far as anything else, it's a private matter, which

they'll be addressing privately."

In early June, the couple got into an argument outside a bar in Warren,

Mich., after Eminem saw Mathers kissing another man, whom the

rapper then allegedly attacked. Police arrested Eminem and his

wife, slapping the rapper with felony assault and weapons charges and

citing Mathers for disruption of the peace.

Eminem is due in court on Tuesday (July 11) for a preliminary hearing on

his charges.

Shortly after the incident, Mathers wrote an open letter to the

Detroit Free Press that seemed to defend her husband and chide

him for having "jumped to conclusions."

The couple's argument at the bar bore eerie similarities to an argument

depicted in the song "Kim" (

excerpt) on Eminem's current album, The Marshall Mathers

LP. Sounding like horror-core hip-hop, the song describes a violent

fight between the couple in which Eminem accuses his wife of cheating.

It has been billed as a prequel to " '97 Bonnie & Clyde," a song on

Eminem's last album, The Slim Shady LP (1999), in which the

rapper details how his alter ego, Slim Shady, kills his wife and

disposes of her body in a lake.

The Marshall Mathers LP has been #1 on the Billboard 200

albums chart for six weeks. It also includes the hit "The Real Slim

Shady" (

On Friday, Eminem appeared in the 44th District Court in Auburn Hills

for a preliminary hearing on weapons-possession charges. These charges

stem from a fight with an employee of the
