Snooki's NYE Ball Drop Moved To The Jersey Shore

MTV's grand plan to ring in 2011 by having Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi lowered into Times Square inside a giant ball has hit a major snag, thanks to objections from local authorities.

The original MTV announcement concerning the Snooki New Year's Eve stunt certainly gave the impression that it was a done deal, but on Wednesday, the group Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment said the Jersey Shore star and MTV could not be accommodated. "It was never intended or requested for Snooki to be in the actual New Year's Eve Ball in Times Square," the group said in a statement, adding "the request to have her in a separate ball on a set-back roof came too late and was too impractical to fit in to our outdoor events."

But you can't keep a good Snooki down – or prevent her from being lowered down. The community of Seaside Heights, N.J. might not have the glamour of Manhattan, but it plays host to the Jersey Shore gang in season, and MTV has been granted permission to construct the Snooki ball apparatus at the site of the Jersey Shore house. A photo of the construction site published by TMZ reveals Snooki's name on the ball.

The ball drop will still be shown as part of MTV's New Year's Bash, although the stunt will likely be taped Thursday. So what of the plans to have the rest of the Jersey Shore gang in Times Square to attempt to set a world record for the largest number of fist-pumpers gathered in one place? Stay tuned, I guess.
