Liz Phair Sets U.S. Tour Dates

Notoriously foul-mouthed singer plans nine-show outing that will take her from San Diego to the Big Apple.

Bursting back onto the scene after a three-year sabbatical, the notoriously stage-shy Liz Phair has set a spate of nine dates in support of her third LP, whitechocolatespaceegg.

Phair jumps back into the fray Sept. 23 at 4th & B in sunny San Diego, as the singer/guitarist embarks on a nine-date tour that will creep up the California coast and into the Pacific Northwest before shooting across the country for a four-date Eastern swing with a closer in New York.

The tour in support of Phair's latest LP might be her best yet, due to her increasing wealth of material. "The fact is, she's spent the past three years working on songs and crafting her ability to create even more well-structured songs," said Chris Lombardi, co-president of Phair's label, Matador.

Phair, 31, first splashed onto the music scene with her 1993 debut, Exile In Guyville, an 18-song opus of sweetly sung, foul-mouthed screeds such as "Fuck and Run" (RealAudio excerpt) and "Divorce Song," about one who did her wrong.

With the recent release of whitechocolatespacegg, Phair boldly breaks new lyrical ground -- with more sensitive and introspective tracks such as "Polyester Bride" (RealAudio excerpt) addressing themes relevant to her marriage and the birth of her first child -- while still maintaining her songwriting knack.
