Kiesza's First U.S. Show: Oh My God, It Was So Amazing

Watch her perform 'Hideaway' plus a brand-new song.

I'll be the first to admit that sometimes, I tend to exaggerate things. (See: That time in fifth grade when I described watching "Final Destination" on a plane at night as "a near-death experience.") But, my fanatical freakout over Kiesza last week is totally legit, and now I have proof that the hype is well-founded.

On Tuesday night, July 22, the Canadian singer-songwriter played her very first show in the U.S. at New York City's Santos Party House, and -- oh my god -- I'm so glad I witnessed it firsthand.

At no point in the show did Kiesza's energy drop -- the same goes for her phenomenal dancers, Ebony and Jordan, up top -- and the quality of the vocals remained stellar throughout. Whether Kiesza was whipping out some fast-paced throwback choreography or dialing things down for a tender, piano-driven Haddaway cover, she never stopped giving it.

The full set included all four tracks off of her recently released Hideaway EP (title track "Hideaway," "Giant In My Heart," "So Deep," "What Is Love"), unreleased fan favorite "No Enemiesz," plus a new never-before-heard song off of her forthcoming debut album that is likely either titled "Losing My Mind" or "You've Got Me Losing My Mind." (Check it below. Excuse the terrible video quality. I'm basically playing chicken with my 2011 iPhone 4 at this point, and I'm not dying first.)

There was also a cover of "Hallelujah" -- she cited Jeff Buckley as one of her idols -- plus dance breaks to Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock's "It Takes Two" and Bell Biv DeVoe's "Poison." All in all, I got the impression that Kiesza's shifting her palette of references away from '90s House and more towards a mix of early-'90s Hip Hop and New Jack Swing. Either way, I'm excited to see what she hits us with next.

Watch Kiesza debut a new cut off her album.

And I can't forget "Hideaway," ooh-ahh-bviously.

In case you haven't seen the full video yet, fix that.
