Janet Jackson took to New York's City Hall on Thursday afternoon to announce the details of a "Velvet Rope" tour that will kick off in mid-July, and will end with a live concert special from New York's Madison Square Garden on October 11.
Jackson, flanked by New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and retired army general Colin Powell, briefed the press about her tour plans, which include a live HBO broadcast of her October New York concert. The tour will kick off in Grand Rapids, Michigan on July 13.
Before bringing her tour to the U.S., Jackson will play a string of dates in Europe beginning in April and culminating in June with a date at London's Wembley Arena.
Powell was on-hand as the chairman of a non-profit group for at-risk youth called "America's Promise" which Jackson plans to support.
