Tom DeLonge Apparently Quit Blink-182 Again, And Fans Are Just Confused

"We break up, the band got bigger," Tom DeLonge said... in 2009.

UPDATE: (1/26/15, 5:46 p.m. ET): Tom DeLonge's publicist issued the following statement via Tom: “I never quit the band. Actually, I was on the phone discussing a possible Blink-182 event in New York City when I heard the ‘news.’ The ONLY truth here is that I have commitments that limit my availability this year. I love Blink-182 and I’m not leaving.”

UPDATE: (1/26/15, 4:03 p.m. ET): Tom DeLonge has posted a message on his Facebook stating that despite press releases sent to the media, he's not leaving Blink-182. He also hashtagged #BabyBackRibs.

Quit your band once, and the fans are bummed. Quit it twice, and they start to wonder what's up. Keep quitting? Well, then they're just like, "... The f--k?"

Of course, we've talking about Tom DeLonge: After taking time to work on some side projects in 2002 and going on indefinite hiatus in 2005 to focus on Angels and Airwaves, singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge has reportedly quit Blink-182 again on the eve of an upcoming festival date.

We're not saying we don't believe him, but then again, here's Tom DeLonge telling MTV News, "then we broke up and then we just got bigger"... in 2009:

"We were all set to play this festival and record a new album and Tom kept putting it off without reason," read a statement from the band announcing that Alkaline Trio's singer/guitarist Matt Skiba would be subbing in for DeLonge at the MUSINK Tat Fest in California this March. "A week before we were scheduled to go in to the studio we got an email from his manager explaining that he didn’t want to participate in any Blink-182 projects indefinitely but would rather work on his other non-musical endeavors... No hard feelings, but the show must go on for our fans.

Fans just didn't know what to think.

Tom DeLonge remains a key figure in the formation and evolution of pop-punk, and he's just as critical to music today -- from his founding Modlife to Macbeth -- as he was during his early days in Blink. We don't know if this is growing up, but we've reached out to Tom's publicist and have yet to receive a comment. In the meantime, he'll remain that on-again-off-again boyfriend who we keep breaking up with but are never really done with.
