The Palm Springs International Film Festival is known throughout the film the industry as the unofficial launch of movie awards season, and this year's 26th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala – which took place last night – was a veritable who's who of Hollywood heavyweights.

Many of the evening's winners are favored for Academy Award nominations – and, as Variety reiterates, the Gala is regularly scheduled one week after Oscar ballots are sent to voters.

Here are some of last night's winners and presenters who graced the stage in style – let the red carpet season begin!

New mom and "Gone Girl" star Rosamund Pike, winner of the Breakthrough Actress award.

David Oyelowo, winner of the Breakthrough Actor award for portraying Martin Luther King Jr. in Oscar Best Picture frontrunner "Selma."

Julianne Moore, Actress winner for "Still Alice."

Eddie Redmayne, Actor winner for playing Stephen Hawking in "The Theory of Everything."

Reese Witherspoon, winner of the Chairman's Award for her role in "Wild."


Benedict Cumberbatch (joined by new fiancee Sophie Hunter), who took home an award as part of the Ensemble Cast recognition for "The Imitation Game."

Presenter Robert Downey Jr., who opened for Icon Award winner and his "The Judge" co-star Robert Duvall.
