The benefit drew 83 million viewers and a gross average audience of more than 24 million viewers in the United States, and it has raised more than $61 million in donations from the general public to date.

George Clooney, who helped to organize "Hope for Haiti Now," has given $1 million to relief for victims, as have Sandra Bullock, [article id="1630219"]Leonard DiCaprio[/article], and Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Gisele Bundchen donated $1.5 million to the cause, and Madonna donated $250,000.

"I think it's the same message that everybody does, that churches do, that communities do -- which is everybody participate, help out, whatever way you can," [article id="1630204"]Clooney told MTV News[/article] in Los Angeles last Thursday, during rehearsals for the star-studded telethon. "If it's clothing, give clothing. This is designed for money. And it can be anything. Five bucks -- it can be anything, whatever way you can help out, but be involved. It's a big world out there, and we all have a lot of responsibility to look out for people that can't look out for themselves."
