Miley Cyrus Reveals The Empowering Reason She Wears Pasties

'There are people that need to see it.'

If there's one thing Miley Cyrus loves, it's pasties. She's worn butterfly ones to perform. She wore ice cream cone ones to party at New York Fashion Week. They've helped her channel Lil Kim for Halloween.

Miley's love of pasties often confuses critics who can't reconcile the fact that she likes showing off her body AND sharing a message of empowerment, and, actually, she understands their confusion. In new outtakes from her Paper Magazine interview, she explains, though, why she wears them.

She says, "I'm singing about empowerment while I've got my t--s out, and it's like, "What the f--k?" But that is empowering because the other night I was playing with Joan Jett in Dallas and I was in nipple pasties, like, 'F--k, maybe I shouldn't go out. These people in Dallas are going to be really offended.' And then I thought, 'No, there are people that need to see it.' They need to see a woman standing next to another chick playing guitar, f----n' singing a rock 'n' roll song with their t--s out."

She goes on to explain that she knows her pasties tend to get a lot of attention, which is why they're absent in her Backyard Sessions, saying, "I just want something that was without the stunts, without the nipple pasties, without the weed. I wanted something that America could watch."

So, there you have it—Miley Cyrus admitting there's a time and place for pasties and, yeah, she can be all about empowerment and still love them. Boom.
