Over the years, actor Paul Giamatti has racked up prestige points and solidified his position as a thespian at the height of his craft. Certainly, the actor is in a position within the industry to make demands.
As it turns out, the “Sideways” and “American Splendor” star would like nothing more than to be a part of the “Spider-Man” franchise’s developing reboot — but not just any part. Giamatti sees himself as The Rhino.
Sitting down Tuesday night with Conan O’Brien, the actor recalled fond memories of the Spidey villain within his formative comic reading exploits. The character seems to remain a favorite.
“The Rhino was fantastic. He was, like, a Russian guy. He was real fast and he hit stuff real hard," he said. "He had, like, a rhino suit on, and his face was sticking out of the rhino suit and he had a horn."
It's currently unknown whether Giamatti has any chance of portraying The Rhino, a.k.a. Aleksei Sytsevich, in “The Amazing Spider-Man,” or if the project’s villain roster has already been fully filled. Actor C. Thomas Howell revealed that fans could expect to see The Lizard in the rebooted franchise’s first film, set to star Andrew Garfield as the lithe young hero.
