What's Maroon 5 And One Republic All Over? MKTO's New Project

MKTO chats with MTV News about their 'Bad Girls' EP, out Friday.

It's been nearly three years since MKTO's Malcolm Kelley and Tony Oller released their debut single "Thank You," and after "a long process," the guys are excited to finally drop their Bad Girls EP -- the duo's second major body of work -- Friday (July 24).

Using "the same kind of formula" from hit songs like "Classic" and "American Dreams," the pair unleashed four brand-new songs -- including the title track -- which they "think people will dig."

"In general [we're] just a little more grown up and I think you could kind of describe this [project] as a Maroon 5/One Republic kind of record," Oller told MTV News.

The EP precedes their upcoming full-length album, which is completely finished unless they find an additional vocalist to throw in the mix.

"The songs are all written, so if it comes to a point where we want to add a feature, and that's a possibility, we'd love to do that," Oller said. "It's figuring out who'd we love to have on the record, we were fortunate to have Ne-Yo on the first record -- really hard to top that."

While their lead single suggests that ladies from their lives served as inspiration for new music, the guys say their travels also made a big impact.

"Thankfully we were really blessed to have two years of traveling, visiting places we'd never imagine we'd be able to go with music," Oller explained. "I guess you can say it gave us a lot of ammunition when it came to going in the studio."
