Jonah Hill On '21 Jump Street' Casting, An Animated 'Sausage Party' And Playing A Villain In 'Zoolander 2'
Jonah Hill is a busy dude these days. In addition to promoting the animated superhero flick "Megamind" (in theaters Friday) and filming the "Adventures in Babysitting"-meets-"Pineapple Express" R-rated comedy "The Sitter," the funnyman's cinematic plate is piled high with a strange melange of upcoming projects: a comedic contemporary take on the '80s cop show "21 Jump Street," a potential role as a villain in the eagerly anticipated male-supermodel sequel "Zoolander 2" and an R-rated animated flick titled "Sausage Party."
MTV News visited Hill on the set of "The Sitter" to get an update on that exceedingly full dance card of his, and he did not disappoint. "That should be shooting early next year," Hill said of "21 Jump," which will see him act as star, co-writer and producer. "It will be my next movie. I won't do another movie before that movie as of right now." Of course, we had to ask the question on everyone's mind: Is Johnny Depp on board to reprise his role as Tom Hanson? "Hopefully, he does it. It would be awesome if he did it," Hill said, before jokingly directing a message directly at Depp. "Just do it, dude. Don't be an a--hole. Just be in the movie."
Hill was more tight-lipped when we grilled him on the veracity of rumors that his "Superbad" co-star Emma Stone would be suiting up for the cop flick. "I can't say anything to the negative or the positive of that," he smiled, then added: "I think we'll have some cool casting announcements to make very, very soon." In other words, Stone is in.
As for all the recent talk that Hill would be joining Will Ferrell's Mugatu as a villain in the long-awaited "Zoolander 2" -- the script for which is being written by Ben Stiller and Justin Theroux -- Hill is just plain flattered by the prospect. "If Ben Stiller wants me to be in 'Zoolander,' I just say, 'Thanks for wanting me to be in the movie,'" he said. "I talked with Ben and Justin, and they had an idea of who they wanted me to play, and I kind of riffed on that idea and gave them some other ideas. I'd love to be a part of it whenever they get it together."
That said, Hill -- who says he's a diehard fan capable of quoting every line from the original "Zoolander" -- does have one reservation about playing the sequel's big bag. "Mugatu, those are some pretty big shoes to fill that I could never fill," Hill said. "But I think I read that he's in [the sequel] as well. Thank God, because I'd beat myself up -- I'd never be as funny as Mugatu!"
As we mentioned earlier, Hill is also looking to make the animated comedy "Sausage Party" with pals and collaborators Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. "It's a 3-D animated movie," Hill said. "Imagine if 'Shrek' was R-rated, a very hard and aggressive R. It takes place in a supermarket. I don't know if I'm giving away too much, but that's something we're working on. It's pretty hysterical!"
