Nick Cannon Gets Crunk, Tackles New Movie Roles

Four films on tap for young rapper/actor.

LOS ANGELES -- Nick Cannon has another message for Shorty.

After asking her to "Put It on the Floor" with his last single (see [article id="1480085"]"Busta, Fat Joe, Chingy Join Nick Cannon's Search For 'Shorty' "[/article]), he's now demanding her to "Get Crunk."

Cannon is releasing "Get Crunk Shorty," a Just Blaze-produced collaboration with the Ying Yang Twins and Fatman Scoop, as the next single from his self-titled debut.

There are no plans to shoot a video, however, as the rapper/actor is already in the studio working on his next project, the soundtrack to "The Underclassman," an upcoming movie starring and executive produced by Cannon.

"I'm gonna work with a variety of people on this one just to kinda get out there," Cannon said at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. He's off to a good start, as Kanye West is already on board.

"The Underclassman," which came from an idea Cannon pitched to Miramax (see [article id="1479274"]" 'Gigolo' Nick Cannon Sure Is Hooking Up A Lot In Hollywood"[/article]), co-stars Kelly Hu and Shawn Ashmore, both of "X2: X-Men United" fame.

"It's basically an action-adventure/comedy thing," Ashmore said recently. "I play a student at a prep school who's under investigation for murder and car theft and stuff like that."

Before "The Underclassman" hits theaters later in the year, Cannon, or at least his voice, will be on the big screen in "Garfield," due June 11.

"I play a little mouse, Louis D. Mouse," Cannon said. "It's a stretch for me, 'cause I ain't really been a mouse before," he continued, laughing. "So I had to kinda study all the famous mice -- Mickey, you know, Mighty -- I had to study them and kinda see where I was gonna take it."

Bill Murray voices Garfield in the movie, which also features Jennifer Love Hewitt, Debra Messing and Breckin Meyer.

Cannon, who also has a role in Jennifer Lopez's "Shall We Dance?," will shoot another movie he conceptualized later in the year called "The Beltway."

"It's a political thriller," Cannon said of the movie, which centers on a young intern on Capitol Hill who uncovers an illegal plot overseen by the CIA. "I'm trying to think outside the box, go that young Tom Cruise route."
