Kick-Ass Chick Of The Week: Texas Teacher Dies, Gives Birth, Comes Back From The Dead

Among the mighty feats that MTV's "Girl Code" accomplishes is empowering its viewers to laugh off their insecurities and embrace their inner superstar. There's a kick-ass chick in all of us, so each week, we're shining the spotlight on one newsworthy woman who deserves a standing ovation. And some cake. Cake is good. Take a look at our latest pick!

Proud mama, healthy baby, incredible story.

Having a baby is one of the most impressive, difficult and all-around bad-ass things a human being can accomplish -- seriously, you made a person -- so what could make giving the gift of life even more amazing? Try doing it while technically dead.

That's exactly what happened to Texas teacher Erica Nigrelli, who collapsed in a friend's classroom while 36 weeks pregnant. After Erica fell to the floor, her quick-thinking coworkers administered CPR and defibrillator panels to her chest, but to no avail -- her heart had stopped.

Doctors at a nearby hospital were able to deliver her baby via post-mortem C-section, but then something even more extraordinary happened: Erica came back to life. The new mom was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, an often-fatal condition that causes thickening of the heart muscle, and was then fitted with a pacemaker to keep her ticker from becoming a time bomb.

As for her baby, Elayna, she's happy, healthy and has certainly more than earned her "Mommy's Little Miracle" onesie.
