Ashley Tisdale Working Hard On Her 'Heavily Pop' Album: Get All The Details

The singer/actress opens up to MTV News about her plans for 2014, including new music and several acting projects.

With 2014 right around the bend, Ashley Tisdale once again has fans' attention after releasing "You're Always Here," earlier this month.

But she notes that her deeply personal ballad, about the loss of her grandfather, doesn't really tease what her new album will sound like.

"I'm still trying to find exactly where I want to go with that. I've been heading towards a specific direction and I think that's where I'm going to be," she told MTV News. "It's obviously still pop and we've been playing with more dance pop. My last album was pop rock, so I definitely kind of have been more into the dancier type of pop songs. It's definitely heavily pop for sure."

And while she's been hard at work on the music, she hasn't quite nailed down a release date. It's been four years since she released an album with 2009's Guilty Pleasure.

"I don't even know if I'm just going to do singles or do an album. It's really just me going into the studio and doing what I love," she said. "I've been inspired to start doing music again. I've been really excited to be back in the studio and figuring out what that next sound is. But I definitely missed it and I'm having a lot of fun with it, so we will see."

While her current focus is on music, she is also maintaining a presence in Hollywood with cameos on sitcoms like "Super Fun Night" and "The Crazy Ones." "I've been doing more TV and hope to do more in the future. But as a producer I have a Disney Channel movie coming out called 'Cloud 9.' I'm excited for everybody to see it; it's really cool," she said, adding that she auditioned actors for the movie in the same room she once auditioned in for "High School Musical."

"I mean, I've had my [production] company for five years and it's obviously taken a little time to really get going, but just being able to be on that other side, it's awesome," she added of her work behind the scenes.

Additionally, she also has a small part in the flick "A Many Splintered Thing" as well as a role in the animated movie "The Great Migration," alongside fellow "High School Musical" alum Vanessa Hudgens. "I'm excited," she said of the latter, though noting that the excitement comes with a caveat as the film still doesn't have a release date. "When the time comes, if it happens, that'd be awesome."
