Over the years, lots of artists have stepped onstage at Houston's Reliant
Astrodome after sweaty bouts of panting, galloping, bucking and rope tying,
and this year Destiny's Child, Mary J. Blige and Brian McKnight will join
Take your mind out of the gutter! The acts will be performing as part of
this year's Rodeo Houston celebration, in which a full-fledged rodeo show
precedes concerts by high-profile rock, rap and country groups.
This is the final year the rodeo will be fraternizing with rockers at the
Astrodome, the rodeo's publicist said. Following 37 seasons at the venue, in which acts from Elvis Presley to Def Leppard to Boys II Men have graced the stage, Rodeo Houston
will move to nearby Reliant Stadium for the 2003 season.
Between February 12 and March 3, however, the original venue will host a wide range
of talent including Dixie Chicks (February 12), Neil Diamond (February 13),
Bob Dylan (February 20), Brian McKnight and Mary J. Blige (February 22),
Willie Nelson and Lee Ann Womack (February 26), REO Speedwagon and Styx
(February 25), Destiny's Child (March 1) and George Strait (March 3).
With the price of admission, concertgoers can watch 19 rodeo events
including bull riding, bareback races, saddle bronco riding, calf roping and
