Lauren Hill Remembered By LeBron James, Becky Hammon, More As A Star On And Off The Basketball Court

The 19-year-old freshman basketball player lost her battle with cancer but inspired many.

Though Mount St. Joseph University basketball player Lauren Hill was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma when she was just 18, she was determined to keep playing as the Cincinnati school's team forward through the 2014-15 season. It was just another example of her tenacity, and it's one of the qualities that she's likely to be remembered for.

On Friday (April 10), the 19-year-old lost her battle with cancer, and pro athletes and sports figures like LeBron James and Becky Hammon took to Twitter to mourn her loss and pay tribute to her memory.

In the spirit of a true champion, Lauren launched her own not-for-profit organization, Lauren's Fight for Cure, which has raised more than $1.5 million for cancer research.

The Indiana native's life was cut short, but her impact was larger-than-life. Hill's refusal to give up and commitment to giving back should have a lasting impact.
