You Won't Believe How Long It Took Kellan Lutz To Become Hercules

'Legend of Hercules' star reveals how he transformed into a very fit Greek god.

How long does it take to become Hercules? Well, if you're Kellan Lutz, that answer is ... six days.

The star of "The Legend of Hercules" was informed by director Renny Harlin that he had less than a week to train before filming began on what will be the latest take on the epic tale of the Greek demigod.

"I thought I'd have more time to prepare," Lutz told MTV News' Josh Horowitz. "[The director] actually kind of punked me. ... He's like, 'You have to be on a plane in about a week.' I lost my mind ... I was just really excited."

Luckily, when you're Lutz, a star who gained fame as a hunky and often shirtless vampire in the "Twilight" franchise, the time crunch wasn't as impossible as it sounds. "That's why I love action movies," he said. "I love being physical. I'm very active in life, that's my lifestyle."

While Lutz was able to get the Hercules physique down in less than a week -- particularly important since he spends most of the movie sans shirt -- there were more specific skills the actor had to learn to become an especially adept action star.

"I had to learn how to be an expert or look like an expert horse-rider, sword-wielder, spear-thrower, stunts-choreographer," he explained. "It was just a lot compiled into not many days."

Sounds tiring right? But Lutz is Herculean in more ways than one, and apparently he never tired over the course of training during six-day work weeks. "I was just enjoying all the work," he said.

The only way to describe Lutz's work ethic? Godlike. And you can check out the fruits of Lutz's labor yourself as "The Legend of Hercules" opened nationwide on Friday (January 10).
