Rostam Batmanglij Fights Gravity In New Solo Video

'Gravity Don't Pull Me' is the former Vampire Weekend member's new single

When Vampire Weekend founding member Rostam Batmanglij quit the band back in January, our delicate alt-pop hearts were broken. “My identity as a songwriter + producer, I realized, needs to stand on its own," Batmanglij wrote in an honest note to fans. Now, we're getting our first glimpse at that new identity in the video for Rostam's new solo single, "Gravity Don't Pull Me."

Batmanglij, who has collaborated with artists such as Charli XCX, Jenny Lewis, and Carly Rae Jepsen, enters the realm of electronics with "Gravity Don't Pull Me." A weighty, yet undeniably genuine admission of guilt, the single tackles the topic of regret ("I messed things up/And I broke his heart"). Heavy vibes, yet the song -- and its sparse accompanying video -- is surprisingly subtle and light, with a pleasant, pulsing beat that carries the whole way through.

The video, directed by Batmanglij and Josh Goleman, stars dancers Jack Grabow and Sam Asa Pratt. "Gravity Don't Pull Me" is out now via XL Recordings.
