21-Year-Old Atheist Turns 'I Met God, She's Black' Slogan Into A Viral Fashion Statement

High-profile fans of the shirt include the likes of Drake and Cara Delevingne.

One enterprising twenty something has turned a religious statement into a profitable venture.

Although he did not invent the phrase, Dylan Chenfield, a 21-year-old who describes himself as a Jewish atheist, has plastered the streets of Manhattan with posters that say, "I Met God, She's Black." He also sells sweatshirts and t-shirts of the slogan in his online shop, RooftopsNYC. In the product description, Chenfield described the shirts as:

The original shirt that got this whole thing started. As seen on every cool kid that goes to your school, and every cool human in your office. That one guy that gets all the hi-fives by the water cooler totally rocks this.

Although Chenfield has sold the t-shirts online for more than a year, they've gained traction recently on social media and Tumblr, especially among young people. Celebrities like Drake and model/actress Cara Delevingne were also spotted wearing them, giving them an extra boost of street cred.

"I like poking fun at sacred cows, Chenfield said in an interview with Huffington Post. "I'm taking the idea that God is a white male and doing the opposite of that, which is a black woman."

On his online shop, he wrote, "Question the commonly accepted views. What is god?"
