Watch Thirty Seconds To Mars 'MTV Unplugged' Cover Of U2's 'Where The Streets Have No Name'

Every song Thirty Seconds To Mars performed at their extraordinary "MTV Unplugged" presented by Starburst taping was reimagined, rearranged, reconsidered and refined until each song became its own extraordinary, ethereal experience in its own right. But perhaps no song was as unexpectedly revelatory as the band's choice to cover U2's "Where The Streets Have No Name" as their Contradictions Track.

With the help of a gospel choir and meticulous orchestration, Thirty Seconds To Mars took "Where The Streets Have No Name" -- a gargantuan behemoth of an anthem known for rousing stadiums, castles, and other major landmarks, and, in the case of the classic video, filling the streets of Los Angeles and nearly shutting down the city -- and created a formidable yet supremely spiritual homage to U2's original. "Coming in on the last song like that... gave everybody a lift," Jared Leto said of the song coming together once the gospel choir was added to the arrangement.
