Initiates, Veronica Roth's Next Book Will Be About ...

Thanks for your candor, V.

Nine long months after "Divergent" author Veronica Roth first dropped the news that she'd be taking us all aboard another new thrill ride -- this time, a duology said to be "in the vein of 'Star Wars'" -- some new details about the forthcoming (but still far, far away) series are here.

Roth took to Tumblr Friday (Dec. 4) to shell out some new deets for everyone who's just sure to be first jumper in line for her new series when the as-yet-unnamed part one comes out in 2017 and the second installment follows in 2018.

The Divergent Series: Insurgent Premiere Held In New York

"I have been really excited to see a bunch of questions about my next book popping up on various social media platforms," she wrote. "The little blurb I gave about it awhile ago was pretty vague, so I’ve worked up a better summary to give you guys as I continue to write it."

Indeed, you might recall that the original info she'd shared before let us know that the two-part series would be "the story of a boy who forms and unlikely alliance with an enemy" since they share the common goal of escaping "oppressive lives [and can] help each other attain what they most desire: for one, redemption, and the other, revenge."

It was enough to get our attention, sure, but so would any sentence that had the words "Veronica Roth" and "new books" in it, so ... we're glad she's finally getting a little more specific with this.

"My new book is a sci-fi fantasy story set in a time of extreme political unrest (hence the 'Star Wars' comparisons you might have heard!)," Roth wrote in an FAQ-themed update. "In it a boy named Akos, along with his brother, is kidnapped and brought to an enemy nation. When the dictator of that place threatens his brother’s life, Akos has no choice but to work with a girl named Cyra (the dictator’s sister), to save him. But Cyra’s trust—and her kindness!—are difficult to earn… to put it mildly. And the intense friendship Akos and Cyra form puts them in more danger than they could ever have imagined."

Kidnapping? Danger? Friendship? Enemy nation? Say no more (OK do say more, but this'll do for now).
