Premiere: Watch Once A Tree's Haunting 'For You' Video

'For You' originally debuted on the duo's Thousand Lives EP.

Listening to soulful singers like Jessie Ware and London Grammar's Hannah Reid does something special to my brain...there's an angelic, soothing quality to their voices that's hard to find, and Jayli Wolf has that rare gift.

Jayli is one half of the R&B-electro duo, Once A Tree, along with her husband and producer John Wolf. The talented couple released their six-track Thousand Lives EP this summer, and today MTV News is exclusively premiering their new video "For You."

The new visual shows us snapshots of a couple who are deeply in the throes of love, but things quickly begin to unravel as they battle their own inner demons. "It’s a struggle we all face in our own lives, whether it be in a romantic relationship, friendship, or otherwise," Once A Tree told MTV News. "But instead of perpetuating self-loathing and worthlessness, we’re hoping to relay a message of self-love and empowerment."

“The lyrics and video are about that insecurity, of feeling you’re not worthy of something you want or have, whether it be a relationship, job, or opportunity," they added. "So you don’t allow yourself to have it—you sabotage it and end up breaking your own heart."

Together Jayli and John created the entire video, from scouting, to shooting, and even editing, to make sure it represented their vision fully.

"With a message so deeply personal to us, we wanted to be sure we were a part of every single aspect and to make it fit our vision exactly. Using actors, instead of starring in the videos as we’ve done in the past, allowed us a certain level of creative control and artistic license that we wouldn’t have had otherwise.”
