George Strait Tour Sweeps U.S.

Martina McBride, Tim McGraw, others converge for 10-show spectacle of music and entertainment.

Country heavyweights Asleep at the Wheel, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney and Martina McBride will join George Strait when he opens a stadium tour Saturday (April 29) in Charlotte, N.C.

Clay Davidson, Jerry Kilgore, Mark Chesnutt, Lee Ann Womack and Lace also are set to perform.

Organizers of "Nokia Presents the George Strait Chevy Truck Country Music Festival" say the 10-city tour has outsold Rolling Stones and U2 tours and continues to expand, boasting the largest festival area ("Straitland") ever associated with a concert. Thirty-one semitrailers and 20 tour buses are needed to transport the artists, staff and 2.5 million pounds of equipment to each venue. With two stages (including a new stage unveiled in Nashville last weekend), three Jumbotrons and an entourage of 150 people, the touring convoy is a spectacle itself.
