Jim Sturgess Reveals Details Of His 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Audition

Chris Pratt is Star-Lord in "Guardians of the Galaxy," but he wasn't the only actor vying for the lead in Marvel's intergalactic epic. Jim Sturgess of "Cloud Atlas" fame was one of the many men in contention for the part of Peter Quill, and during a recent interview with MTV News, he told us all about the process.

"I got way further than I'd ever imagined I possibly could," he told MTV while promoting "Upside Down," his new movie opening March 15. "As you get further and further down the line, you start caring about it more and more. The competitiveness in you starts kicking in. But I was amazed I'd gotten as far down the line as I did."

"As you find out more about what the movie is about -- it's set in a total fantasy landscape, which was intriguing to me," he continued. "This guy has a talking raccoon and a giant human tree or something like that. It's more in the world of kind of 'Star Wars,' I guess."

Sturgess said he got so far along in the process that he went through an unexpected costume fitting for the part. Patting his stomach, the actor joked, "'You should have told me! I would have been crunching in the dressing room!'"
