Orchestra Morphine, featuring former Morphine members Dana Colley (saxophone) and Billy Conway (drums), have announced more dates for their upcoming spring tour.
After a five-date tour in the Northeast this February, the upcoming 17-show spring tour will start Sunday in Cambridge, Mass., and wrap up in San Diego May 20.
The decision to expand the group's lineup follows the untimely death of bassist/frontman Mark Sandman last summer while touring Europe. The 46-year-old Sandman's heart attack occurred just following the completion of the band's most recent album, The Night, released Feb. 1.
The album features more varied arrangements than the band's earlier work, which was created with a spare drum, sax and bass lineup. The murky "Rope on Fire" (RealAudio excerpt), featuring strings flowing seamlessly into dusky organ chords, expands its tonal palette while maintaining its distinctly cinematic sound.
