12 Books You Need To Read Before They Become Movies In 2016

Your winter break just became booked.

As 2015 comes to a close, we anxiously look forward to all the wonders 2016 will have in store, and that includes 12 (hopefully) amazing book-to-film adaptations. From YA to thriller to classic children's stories, adventure is only a page away.

This year, we saw several successful adaptations come alive, including "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay," "Insurgent" and "The Scorch Trials," and we expect nothing less from 2016.

So, here are 12 fantastic books you should need to add to your reading list STAT, because their movie versions are about to become your newest obsession in the coming year.

"The 5th Wave" by Rick Yancey

The first in a trilogy, Cassie must team up with Evan if she ever wants to rescue her brother after aliens invade Earth and plunge it into total chaos. The film, starring Chloë Grace Moretz, is out January 22, 2016.

"Pride And Prejudice And Zombies" by Seth Grahame-Smith (and Jane Austen, of course)

A parody of Austen's famous novel, the story of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy's tit-for-tat stays the same, simply add zombies. Just in time for that special date night, the film will premiere February 5, 2016.

"Allegiant" by Veronica Roth

The final book in Roth's "Divergent" series will be divided into two separate films, à la "Harry Potter." The novel follows Tris Prior's daily struggles as she and Tobias plan to look for a better life on the other side of the fence. Part 1 will debut March 18, 2016, while Part 2 — called "Ascendant" — is slated to premiere June 9, 2017.

"Through The Looking-Glass, And What Alice Found There" by Lewis Carroll

Following "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," the sequel involves Alice discovering time moves backwards in the Looking-Glass world. She encounters more magical creatures and is kidnapped by the Red Knight. The film will premiere May 27, 2016.

"Me Before You" by Jojo Moyes

This romance novel places Will Traynor and Louisa Clark together after both suffer a major setback to their lives, thus uprooting them of everything they once knew as normal. Starring Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin, the movie will premiere June 3, 2016.

"The BFG" by Roald Dahl

This classic children's book tells the story of Sophie's friendship with a giant. Together, the two of them try to stop other monsters from eating children. Directed by Steven Spielberg, the film will debut July 1, 2016.

"Nerve" by Jeanne Ryan

When Vee is chosen to participate in an online dare game, she realizes the game is much more than it seems. After teaming up with Ian, the duo discovers a secret location and suddenly their game just turned deadly. Emma Roberts and Dave Franco are attached to the project, according to IMDb. The film is slated to premiere July 27, 2016.

"Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children" by Ransom Riggs

The first in a series, the story follows Jacob Portman as he discovers children with extremely unusual abilities. They embark on a journey through time, fighting off wights and hollows along the way. Starring Asa Butterfield, the film will premiere September 30, 2016.

"The Girl On The Train" by Paula Hawkins

Compared with Gillian Flynn's "Gone Girl," this novel follows Rachel Watson, an alcoholic who makes up stories about a couple she sees everyday while riding the train. But when Rachel notices something that could be potentially life-threatening, she vows to uncover the truth about the "happy couple" on her daily commute. The film will premiere October 7, 2016.

"Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life" by James Patterson and Chris Tebbetts

Rafe Khatchadorian kicks off his first year of middle school by trying to break every rule in the school's Code of Conduct. The film will debut October 7, 2016.

"A Monster Calls" by Patrick Ness

Struggling with his mother's terminal illness, Conor suffers nightmares constantly. One evening, he's greeted by a monster who wishes to share stories with him, as long as Conor shares one of his own stories — nay, secrets — too. The film, starring Liam Neeson as the monster, is slated to release October 21, 2016.

"Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them" by J.K. Rowling (using the pseudonym Newt Scamander)

The "Harry Potter" prequel will be the first in a trilogy of films. It introduces us to Newt Scamander several decades before Harry ever read his textbook. Scamander's book describes a plethora of magical species located all over the world. Starring Eddie Redmayne as Newt, the film will debut November 18, 2016.
