In MGMT's new video for "Your Life Is a Lie," viewers are greeted with singing skeletons, weeping rocks, and a bunch of freaks learning to let their freak-flags fly. It's a not-so-subtle message about how we all should probably come clean every once in awhile about some of our rather deeper perversions. The song comes from the band's third album, MGMT, and finds the psychedelic duo in much more friendlier territory sonically speaking -- which should satiate the fans that hated their last album Congratulations. But if this video's any indication of what's in store, they don't seem to be abandoning their love of all things weird.
The band has been rather mum about their new record, but we do know that they reconnected with Dave Fridman and recorded again at his famed Tarbox Studios, where they did their breakout Oracular Spectacular. Leading up to the release of MGMT, they'll be hitting the road for the next several weeks, with several amphitheater and small club dates scattered across the midwest and western part of the United States.
MGMT is out September 17 on Columbia.
