11 Times Melissa Benoist Was An IRL Supergirl

Superman who?

We're eagerly anticipating the premiere of CBS' "Supergirl." Not only does it promise to be thoroughly entertaining, but it will finally, finally bring a female-centric superhero drama to our TV screens.

Unfortunately, the "Supergirl" premiere is not hitting the airwaves until Monday, October 26, which means we have more than a month left to live in a world without a live-action "Supergirl." Luckily, star Melissa Benoist is making up for the wait with some adorably fierce photos of life from the "Supergirl" set and beyond. We're sure she's working incredibly long, arduous days, but Melissa somehow seems to do it with a smile on her face in the most inspirational ways possible.

While we wait for the fictional Supergirl to be brought to life via this television show, here are 11 times Melissa was already the real-life Supergirl we needed in our pop culture lives...

When she hung out with these ADORABLE Girl Scouts.

Melissa has already demonstrated that she takes her role as a model for young girls and boys seriously. Last month, she welcomed this adorable troop of Girl Scouts to the "Supergirl" set to ridiculously cute results. Um, can this be an entire episode of "Supergirl"? But really.

When she surprised 400 moms and daughters at a special Supergirl screening.

Oh, hey remember that time when Melissa surprised 400 moms and daughters at a special screening of the "Supergirl" pilot? Chatting to People about the moment, she said: "I am fully aware of how much Supergirl means to her fans and how much she has the ability to affect people for the better, but I'm not sure I am quite aware of how large that circle of affectation is – and I might not be until the show begins to air in the fall."

When she watched the Supergirl pilot for the first time.

Playing it cool is so overrated. We appreciate a Supergirl who isn't afraid to show just how affected she is by this important pop culture moment.

When she danced during this photo shoot.

In the immortal words of feminist writer Emma Goldman: "If I can't dance, I don't want to be part of your revolution." This "Supergirl" revolution will include dancing.

When she understood what this story is really about.

We dare you to not be inspired by this woman.

When she took such good care of her dog, Milli.

Melissa doesn't let filming a demanding TV show get in the way of taking care of her furry friend.

When she recognized the power of ice cream.

What good is having your own TV show if you don't get free ice cream out of the deal? Supergirl's next nemesis: brain freeze.

When she talked about the importance of the Supergirl role.

spread good

Melissa spoke to Time magazine about understanding the importance of her "Supergirl" role, saying: "I’m accountable for the message we’re trying to spread and what Supergirl does—whether she defeats a bad guy, how she defeats him, how she deals with her problems. But I think there’s this climate now where women are really speaking up and women aren’t afraid anymore. I know that this is not Gloria Steinem, but I think it’s important."

When she prioritized donuts and friendship.

Two of our favorite things. (Three, if you count Melissa Benoist.)

Seriously, she loves donuts.

Donut worry. Be happy.

When she had her cake and ate it, too.

The cake may be gone,  but the symbol lives forever...
