Selena Gomez's Movie Awards Performance Inspiration? Britney Spears!

Songstress will perform her new single, 'Come & Get It,' for first time on Sunday.

Selena Gomez is ready for you to "Come & Get It" -- her new single, that is. Just a week after releasing the track, the songstress will take to the MTV Movie Awards stage (following an introduction by Kim Kardashian) to perform the song for the first time. And as Gomez told MTV News during a rehearsal this week, she's understandably anxious.

"This is the first time I'll be performing 'Come & Get It.' I'm really, really nervous," Gomez admitted.

But it's only because she's pushing herself to new professional heights with the Stargate-produced track and performance.

"I'm excited though. I wanted to make the performance something that'd be a game-changer for me, personally, because I wanted to out-do everything else I've done as an artist," she said. "I love dancing. I love the feel of the song and the tribal feel, so I wanted to incorporate that, so I just wanted a fresh take on what, you know, the new chapter is for me. So I'm excited."

The "tribal feel" of this first single, which Gomez alludes to, is an extension of the larger approach she took to her upcoming album.

"The whole record kind of has a world feel to it in a way," she explained. "It's very European and has a lot of island-y sounds. It's got a cool vibe to it, so we're applying it to the performance and even the tour and for future things we want to do and for this kick-off performance."

The Movie Awards marks another milestone for Gomez: singing and dancing simultaneously!

"This performance will be the first time I will be singing in a head piece. I've been getting used to that," Gomez said. "It's the first time I'll be singing and dancing at the same time. I've done it on tour a little bit, but I've never done a full song that's choreographed, so that's going to be really interesting for me to do, and hopefully I'll do a good job because I'm nervous."

As for a previous MTV performance that inspired what's we'll see on Sunday night, well, that's easy: It's Britney, bitch.

"My favorite MTV performance for any of the awards would be Britney [Spears'] '[I'm a] Slave 4 U,' " Gomez said. "I just loved it. I thought it was super-iconic, and she owned that stage. The routine was impeccable. She looked beautiful. It was kind of when she had her transitioning moment, and that definitely inspired me for this one, for sure."

The MTV Movie Awards, hosted by "Pitch Perfect" star Rebel Wilson, air live, Sunday at 9 p.m. ET.
