JoJo’s Vocal Range Knows Absolutely Zero Limits On New Song ‘Mad Love’

She’s starving, insane, and irrational ... but man, she sounds so good

Guys, JoJo is starving. Famished, in fact. But the only thing that’ll keep her satiated is also the very thing that’s driving her insane: “Mad Love.”

Ahead of the release of her third album, JoJo has shared the project’s sweeping, soulful title track. “Mad Love” finds the 25-year-old pouring her heart out the only way she knows how: by flexing those golden pipes of hers. Over an old-school R&B beat, she sings with growing urgency about throwing rationality out the window and giving in to a painful love that she knows is no good for her. It might just rival Rihanna’s “Love on the Brain” as 2016’s most aching declaration of love.

Speaking to Vogue, JoJo said “mad love” is a favorite phrase of hers that she also applies to her relationships, both romantic and otherwise.

“When I started on this album, I got into the studio while at the end of this relationship that I wasn’t really able to let go of, and ‘Mad Love’ is a product of talking about that,” she explained. “Sometimes the emotions are so strong that you stay in it because it’s so exhilarating. What you get from it is passion and crazy and intensity, even though it might not be good for you.” She added that it also applies to the way she feels about her fans, describing them as “the people who have stuck by me during all this time and grown with me and encouraged me. What I feel for them is just the mad love.”

Mad Love comes after years of JoJo being stuck in label limbo, and marks her first full-length LP in a decade. The album arrives October 14 and also includes the Wiz Khalifa–featuring single “Fuck Apologies.”
