Revamped Days Of The New To Tour U.S.
Singer/songwriter Travis Meeks will debut the new lineup of his
grunge-pop band, Days of the New, during a U.S. tour this fall
in support of the band's second album.
Meeks will be joined on the tour by guitarists Craig Wagner and
Doug Florio, keyboardist Kimmet Cantwell, bassist Brian Vinson,
backup singer Nicole Scherzinger and drummer Ray Rizzo, according
to Geffen/Outpost.
Meeks played most of the instruments on the eponymous new album,
which was released Aug. 31.
He parted ways with the band's original lineup last year because of
what he said were disagreements over the group's musical direction.
"There were some issues going on with [the band] being into the
record and being into the music," Meeks, 20, said recently. "It's
like painting a picture and trying to have [everybody] involved. It
wasn't working. They didn't see the same picture that I did."
The original lineup played on the band's 1997 debut album — also
self-titled — which included the acoustic grunge hit "Touch,
Peel and Stand" (RealAudio
excerpt).
The new album debuted at #40 on the Billboard 200 albums chart
and is now at #91.
The album's first single, "Enemy" (RealAudio
excerpt), is a departure from Days of the New's previous
work. Propelled by a bouncy dance beat and a repeated sample of a man
saying "yeah," the song mixes Meeks' signature acoustic-guitar
strumming with drum-machine rhythms.
