X, Pennywise To Play Benefit

Southern California punk-rockers X, Pennywise and the Vandals are among the bands that will play a benefit in Los Angeles on Sunday (Aug. 15) for Keith Morris, former leader of the Circle Jerks and Black Flag. Morris, who was recently hospitalized for an unspecified illness, is uninsured, according to organizers; the event is designed to help pay his medical bills. The benefit is split into two concerts, beginning at the Whisky a Go Go at 4 p.m. and moving to the Viper Room at 8 p.m. The Whisky show features Pennywise, the Vandals, Fishbone, Tool singer Maynard Keenan and, as the event's host, Butthole Surfers singer Gibby Haynes. The Viper Room show features X, Thelonious Monster, the Weirdos, Haynes as host and filmmaker Penelope Spheeris showing excerpts featuring Morris from her 1981 documentary on the L.A. punk scene titled "The Decline of Western Civilization."
