Lizard Lounge, a club in Cambridge, Mass., will host an informal
tribute show Thursday night (July 8) to honor Morphine composer
and singer/bassist Mark Sandman, who died of an apparent heart
attack July 3 during a performance in Italy. According to Jackson
Cannon, Lizard Lounge's bar manager, musician Mike Rivard has
dedicated his regular Thursday night gig at the club with his
instrumental group Club d'Elf to Sandman, who often played with
the group. John Medeski of the groove-jazz group Medeski,
Martin & Wood will be among the musicians performing at the show,
according to Cannon. A more formal, larger-scale public tribute to
Sandman will be held at another Boston-area club, the Middle East, on
Sunday, July 25, Cannon said. More information on that tribute will be
announced soon, according to Morphine publicist Carrie Svingen.
