The Most Legendary New York VMA Moment Of All Time? Vote Now

The show returns to NYC on August 28, 2016

For more than three decades, the MTV VMAs have been synonymous with iconic moments. When the biggest artists in the world hit that stage, something memorable -- wild, strange, insane, unexpected -- inevitably happens.

That's been true whether the annual event is held in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami, or New York -- where the very first show was staged and where it's returning on August 28, 2016. And, for the first time ever, it will all go down at Madison Square Garden.

"We are very excited the VMAs will return to their original home, the greatest city on earth," Mayor Bill de Blasio told MTV News in an email interview this week. "We’re the cultural capital of the world and there are so many fans here in New York, so it’s so natural for them to be here." Julie Menin, the commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, told MTV News, "[This] reinforces that New York City is, indeed, the entertainment capital of the world."

We'll find out about performers and nominees in the months to come, but one thing's for sure: The show will provide memorable moments as in years past. That said, what's the most legendary NYC VMA moment of all time? Sound off in our poll -- and relive the iconic moments below.
