That 'Leo Got Fucked By A Bear' Movie Awards Rap Was Inspired By A Disney Movie

It all started with The Rock...

If there's one moment that's going to stay with you long after the MTV Movie Awards have wrapped, it's Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Kevin Hart rapping "Leo got fucked by a bear." (Watch the full, explicit performance above.) Inspired by Leonardo DiCaprio's now-iconic fight with a bear in The Revenant, the NSFW rap celebrated 25 years of the Movie Awards -- with dancing bears, plenty of gyrating, and the two hottest MCs in the game.

Surprisingly, the meme-worthy moment can be traced back to a Disney movie. Johnson voices the character of demigod Maui in Disney's upcoming animated film Moana. For the past few months, Johnson has been in the studio recording with composer, lyricist, and all-together genius Lin-Manuel Miranda -- and apparently, he's gotten a little cocky about it.

So when it came time to develop the 2016 MTV Movie Awards, executive producer Casey Patterson wanted to put Johnson's money where his mouth is. Sure, he said he could rap, but did he really have the flow?

"He was in the studio with [Lin] as we were developing the show, and he sent me a text that said, 'You won't believe what a baller I am. I'm straight-up a rapper now.' And I was like, 'OK. We'll write you a rap,'" Patterson told MTV News on location at the Warner Bros. backlot. For his part, Hart has been going by his rapper persona Chocolate Droppa for a while now.

This year is a bit of a defining moment for the MTV Movie Awards. It's the 25th anniversary, so when Patterson and her team conceptualized the show, there wasn't necessarily a theme. Instead, they set out to turn every bit into a production, honing in on the theatricality of the event with explosions, kinetic vignettes, and memeable raps.

"It's one of those things that felt organic," Patterson said. "We're just kind of following culture, and one of the big moments in movies that stood out this year was all about Leo and that bear, so our hosts are going for it."

Yes, they indeed went for it -- and we are forever better for it. BLESS YOU, LIN. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
