After months -- and possibly years -- of anticipation, the "Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice" teaser for the trailer is finally here... And it's everything we ever wanted from a 21-second teaser for a trailer for a full-length movie.
Not only that, but when director Zack Snyder dropped this mini-bomb on Twitter Wednesday, he knew exactly what he was doing: seeding clues that raise our anticipation for the big-screen throwdown to a fever pitch.
With that in mind, here's a second-by-second breakdown of the teaser:
Only one second in and this is already kicking ass. Yes, it's the same close up of the S we saw in "Man of Steel," but who cares? It's been a long time since we've seen you, my friend.
What? What will happen on Monday April 20? I feel like I'm getting high just speculating about it.
The Dark Is Rising
Ooo, a black frame! Does this tease that "Batman V Superman" will be even darker and grittier than its prequel?
If The Suit Fits...
Smash cut to the Superman suit! You don't think he's in this movie, do you?
Red & Blue
Another second of the Superman suit. I think that clinches it, calling it now: Superman is in this movie.
Superman... No More!
Why is the camera lingering on Superman's suit so long? If he's not in it, does that mean after the events of "Man Of Steel," Kal-El has perhaps stepped out of the suit? Has he given up on being Superman?
Another black frame... This probably is teasing the encroaching darkness cause by new villain Lex Luthor (Jess Eisenberg).
Hmm, maybe Lex isn't the only villain in this movie? That's certainly what's implied by these two seconds of blackness.
The Dark Knight
Whaaaaaat!!! Is Batman in this movie, too???
The Dark Knight Returns?
Seems fishy that Batman is ALSO out of his suit... Perhaps this takes place after the events of "Dark Knight Rises," when Bruce Wayne has given up the cowl in favor of a life of tiny glasses of wine in Paris. So could we maybe see him put on the suit again? It would be crazy if we had Batman AND Superman in the same movie, that's probably too much to hope for.
Fade To Knight
Then we fade out on the Batsuit... Could this be the end of Batman?
A Third Villain?
Another black frame, another tease that maybe there's another villain in the movie. With all these potential good guys and bad guys, will the movie feel overstuffed? At least we know there's no other heroes in this than Batman and Superman.
Man O' Steel
There you go, confirmation that Superman is in this, or at least his logo.
Weird, it almost looks like there's bat-ears on the Superman logo. You don't think...
Oh man, it is! Looks like the Batman logo and the Superman logo are joining forces. Perhaps the "V" in the title refers to the classic TV series "V," and Superman will shed his skin to reveal he's actually Batman. Great twist. Really, really great twist.
Then the logo moves a little closer, clearly implying this will be some sort of "move"-ie, rather than just a series of still pictures.
Okay, this clinches it. Given how close the logo comes to the viewer, it's pretty clear that Batman and Superman will stand uncomfortably close to each other. "You're a close talker!" Batman will probably say. "These pretzels are making me thirsty!" Superman will probably answer.
One last frame of black... Does that mean someone else is coming for the composite Superman/Batman?
Thoroughly Modern Batman
Given the hashtag, it's pretty clear Batman and Superman will be embracing social media in this movie. "Wat are U up 2?" Batman might text. "LOL, so thirsty," Superman could answer. "Thirsty baes on fleek," Batman potentially could Snapchat back.
Hashtag V Hashtag: Dawn Of Hashtag
Maybe they'll use Periscope, too? I don't know.
It's Always Darkest...
And then one last black frame. But as they say, it's always darkest before the "Dawn." But usually without the quotation marks.
Okay, so obviously there's not a ton here to actually dissect -- but we fully expect that when the trailer hits Monday, April 20, we'll be losing our minds like everyone else at the prospect of seeing the two titans clash on screen for the very first time.
