Ex-Bikini Kill Singer To Release 'Julie Ruin' LP

The debut album by Julie Ruin -- the artist formerly known as "riot grrrl" Kathleen Hanna of Bikini Kill -- is a home-recorded pastiche of guitar and bass, laced with rudimentary samples, back-dated keyboards and programmed drum tracks. Highlights include the noisy, beat-filled rant "A Place Called Won't Be There" and the painful send-off "Apt. #5." The 15-song, self-titled disc is due out in September on the Kill Rock Stars label.
