Exclusive: Miley Cyrus Breaks Down 'Dooo It!' And Her Crazy AF Performance

Miley puts it all in perspective.

Miley Cyrus pulled double duty at the 2015 MTV VMAs, hosting the big show and debuting a brand-new song called “Dooo It!” with an over-the-top, colorful, bold, statement-making performance.

And if you’re still trying to digest WTF you saw, we’ve got you covered. MTV News caught up with Miley during VMA rehearsals and asked her to break down both the song and performance for us.

“I think a lot of times we love to talk about things we wanna see and change but it’s so easy to [just] talk about it,” Miley said while explaining the inspiration for “Dooo It!”

“It takes the energy and effort to actually go out and do it and make what you want actually happen," she added. "I think it’s important to talk to young people out there that watch this show and say, ‘If you want something, you have to work for it, but it’s all achievable.'”

In terms of the performance, Miley seemed to be carrying on the message that she started with her #InstaPride campaign earlier this summer.

“People need to see every type of human being on that stage being celebrated, people that are outside of that box of what we’re told,” she said. “[For] people that watch the show -- it’s usually a lot of young people out there -- you’re at your most impressionable and it’s where you learn when you’re young, what’s right and wrong, and how you treat other people.”

Love was definitely the overarching theme here.

“We just show that everyone’s decisions and choices [about] who they wanna be is their own, and you have to treat people with respect and love. That’s our greatest responsibility as people.”

As usual, Miley’s performance will probably be a talking point for days and weeks to come and she’s curious to see what everyone will think about it. “I’m really excited to see people’s reactions because I hope they can see past the fact that I’m singing about marijuana and they can also hear me begging for peace,” she said.

“People can get distracted -- there’s a sentence that says 'peace mother---ers' -- they get so stuck on the fact that I said the word ‘f—k’ and they don’t actually see a woman that’s begging for peace.”
