If You Love Nelly, You’ll Stream ‘Hot In Herre’ So He Can Pay Off The IRS

#SaveNelly!

Guys, Nelly is in trouble and it’s up to us to save him.

Yesterday (September 11), news broke that everyone’s favorite bandage-rocking rapper owes the IRS a whopping $2.4 million. On top of that, he also reportedly owes the Missouri Department of Revenue almost $150K. Bottom line: Life’s not too gravy for Nelly right now, and Uncle Sam is coming in hot for his cash.

But there’s good news! Fans have now mobilized with the #SaveNelly movement, which aims to stream Nelly’s 2002 hit “Hot in Herre” enough times to get him out of his debt. It may sound crazy, but it could possibly work. Spin crunched the numbers and found that “Hot in Herre” needs to be streamed between 287,176,547 and 402,880,500 times to earn the 41-year-old enough dough (the exact figure depends on Nelly’s royalty shares, since not every penny per stream actually goes to the artist).

Still, hundreds of millions of streams could go a long way, and fans are dead set on bailing Nelly out of his money misery. Check out some of the best #SaveNelly tweets below, and stream “Hot in Herre” right here to help the cause — you know you want to.
