The cast of Netflix’s retro sci-fi series Stranger Things includes a crop of wildly multi-talented kids, but the fiercest of them all is definitely Millie Bobby Brown. The 12-year-old actress steals every scene as Eleven, a timid, waffle-loving girl with supernatural abilities and a striking buzzcut.
In a new video tweeted out to her legions of adoring followers, Brown shared a behind-the-scenes look at her dramatic transformation into Eleven. The sped-up clip — appropriately soundtracked by Beyoncé’s inner beauty anthem “Pretty Hurts” — shows Brown getting her shoulder-length curls chopped and buzzed into Eleven’s now-iconic look.
To her credit, Brown looks impressively chill during the whole process — that is, until she stoood up and gave the camera her best Eleven-esque death stare. Cue the chills.
In a recent essay for Entertainment Weekly, the show’s creators talked about the moment Brown shaved her head, writing, “When the day of the haircut finally arrived, Millie’s mom brought out a camcorder, while her dad ran away with tears in his eyes, unable to watch. It was a pretty dramatic scene. But also very quick. Within 10 minutes we had shaved it all off and slapped a fake ’11’ tattoo on Millie’s wrist. Millie looked at herself in the mirror, gave her best [Mad Max: Fury Road heroine] Furiosa scream — and Eleven was born.”
Yep, all she needed after that was a trickle of blood coming out of her nose and an armful of frozen Eggo waffles, and then her transformation was truly complete.
